If we focus on the career and life choices of Eric Poitevin, it’s easy to deal in clichés: his rooting in the Lorraine region and the Meuse countryside, his successful career in the Fine Arts, a Villa Medici laureate, education in Paris, etc. But this reading of his career would not do justice to the aesthetic choices and the work of this talented, down to earth, inventive and invariably fascinating photographer. To better understand the 56-year-old man, we should look at his photographs, some of which, beyond being a documented biography in progress (1), speak of a form of placation and a few certainties, quite rare in an artist.
