sven becker : Impermanent horizons

Impermanence Horizons is a series of images created between 2015 and 2023, having as a common denominator the ephemeral aspect of forms, bodies, environments, landscapes, materials, and moments in time.
The images chosen and their association – combined and recombined on the art centre’s walls – are often the result of a playful quest: to render abstract what is born of reality, to play with the confusion of perception to end up with trompe-l’oeil, to subtract elements from the image to question what might well complete it, to experiment with the formats that are so often limited to screen sizes.
“Impermanence”evokes the idea of transition, ephemerality and fragility. “Horizons” symbolise the idea of the future, of openness to another trajectory, or of perceived or real limits. These concepts and preoccupations are reflected in the motifs, in the production process, and in the choice of prints and the way the photographs are hung. Sven Becker’s work in this exhibition invites us to slow down and take some time for contemplation in a world (of photography) that aims to go faster and faster.
